Critics Weigh In About Love TKO

... Another notable collaboration, this time with former American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, came about after he appeared with Nathan East at an event in Washington DC. The result is Studdard's stunning rendition of the Teddy Pendergrass classic ‘Love TKO' which is undoubtedly the best cover of the year so far and arguably of any other besides. ~ Smooth Jazz Therapy

The most remarkable one is the deeply soulful, warmly expressive take of Cecil and Linda Womack's "Love TKO" by Ruben Studdard, with some excellent atmospherics provided by James and Mason. Fourplay's formulaic approach is firmly intact on Let's Touch the Sky and the band is firing on all cylinder, making this a fine entry in 2010's contemporary jazz oeuvre. ~ Thom Jurek

Other big news here is that the project includes stirring performances by guest vocalists Anita Baker on the jaw dropping "You're My Thrill" and American Idol's Ruben Studdard impeccably covering the classic "Love TKO." ...there's tremendous version of Teddy P's 'Love TKO' with the (I think) underrated Ruben Studdard on vocal. In fairness the team don't add too much that's new but it's such great song that's played and sung so sensitively that the version would standout on any soul set.
